Three performers summon dances and fashions of the dazzlingly ambivalent 1980s: an era in which former hippies embraced market liberalism, where bright colors, campy jazz dance moves, and eccentric styles dominated – and where algorithms, doomscrolling, and neofascism were already hauntingly present.

Lick Life Against the Direction of Its Fur
unfolds a world full of contradictions: words and movements get caught in a feedback loop, chewed over and spat out again. Hope, fear, and nostalgia keep colliding and rubbing against each other. Creating a friction that scratches the smooth interfaces which alienate us from our gut feeling.

The stomach, the gut, and the processes of digestion are not merely metaphors but sites of real biological and political significance.”

— Elizabeth A. Wilson, Gut Feminism (2015)
